By Habib Siddiqui
:
Elections are held in many parts of our globe for a plethora of reasons – from electing the head of an organization (including but not limited to social, cultural, financial, business) to the head of a state. Not all elections are fare though and not all elected leaders are good for their constituencies either. It is, thus, important that good leaders are elected when election provides such an opportunity to choose leaders. Read More

The Parallel Paths of Kashmir and South Tyrol - Part Three
Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai
:
Like South Tyrol in respect to Europe, Kashmir is also the largest producer of apples in South Asia. Kashmir has forestry, saffron, paper mâché, untapped minerals and above all the natural beauty that could attract millions of tourists from all over the world and make it sustainable country. Kashmir will only blossom, however, when it is free to choose its own destiny and permitted to develop its great resources on its own terms without interference from any country who would bleed off its wealth to satisfy greed and imperialist desires with no benefit to the Kashmiris themselves. Kashmir has a soul, a sense of individuality, and a long history of a bond among all who live there. It will never be satisfied with less than the opportunity to claim its own identity.  Read More

Pakistan urged to recognize Israel
By Abdus Sattar Ghazali
: A major TV network of Pakistan, SAMA, has strongly advocated for recognition of the Jewish entity, Israel, by the government of Imran Khan. Anchor of a popular SAMA program Khara Sach (Naked Truth), Mubashir Luqman, Monday (Nov 19) called on the government of Pakistan to recognize Israel because Saudi Arabia is about to recognize and “we should do before them.” Mr. Luqman’s advocacy for Israel’s, recognition came within weeks of categorical assertion by the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi, that "Pakistan is not going to establish any ties with Israel."  On October 28, President Alvi also said that Pakistan has supported Palestine because Gaza has also faced unprecedented atrocities like Kashmir.

The Uneasy Future Awaits Trump and MBS
By Dr. Habib Siddiqui
:
As expected the Democratic Party won the majority in the US congressional elections, while the Republicans held on to their majority position within the Senate. As a result, President Donald Trump is on a weaker position today than ever before in his nearly two-years in office, which has been highly divisive and polarizing for the voters. The 2018 midterm election results were truly a verdict on his presidency than anything else. Read More

The parallel paths of Kashmir and South Tyrol - Part One
By Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai(This is part one of three-part paper) South Tyrol has had autonomy for many years, and was an autonomous region even during the Hapsburg rule. Modern problems over the issue began when, responding to Italian ambitions, through the secret and later invalidated Treaty of London of 1915, the Allies promised this southern portion of Austria’s County of Tyrol as well as Trieste to the Italians if the latter would take the side of the Allies (the Triple Entente) against Germany during the First World War. The 2018 American Elections Matter
By Dr. Habib Siddiqui
: American voters go to the polling booths this coming Tuesday to cast their ballots in what is described here in the USA as the mid-term elections. Usually, the mid-term elections are boring events in which only a small fraction of the eligible voters, mostly comprising of the die-hard party supporters and retirees, cast their votes. But this time, it is different. There is excitement in the air. We are told that more money has been spent in ad campaigns this year than ever before in midterm elections. Forecasters are predicting that turnout could end up approaching 50%, “levels not reached since the midterms between 1962-1970 - years, perhaps not coincidentally, that spanned a political turbulent era”, the Associated Press reports.
