March for our lives
By Habib Siddiqui: Summoned to action by surviving studentsof the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Parkland, Florida shooting that left 17 people dead,millions of teenagers and their supporters rallied in protests in more than 800 cities across the USA on Saturday, March 24, demanding change – gun reform. They are simply fed up with government inaction and the power of the ‘gun lobby’, e.g., NRA (National Rifle Association) to curb gun violence. They came to demand a stop to the culture of gun violence that has taken lives of so many of their friends inside and outside the classrooms. Read More
India is alarmed at growing China-Maldives ties

China provides powerful tracking system for Pakistan’s ICBM program

Rewriting Indian history in the image of Hindu chauvinists
By Abdus Sattar Ghazali: The Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, a right wing Hindu nationalist political party in the Northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, released a Hindu New Year calendar which says that Taj Mahal along with several mosques and monuments from the Mughal era, are “Hindu Temples,” Times of India reported Monday (March 19). The calendar refers to Taj Mahal as “Tejo Mahalaya temple.” On the other hand, the Kamal Maula Mosque in Madhya Pradesh has been called as “Bhojshala” and Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi has been referred to as “Vishwanath temple.” Read More

China becomes world's fifth largest arms exporter
By Abdus Sattar Ghazali: China has become the world's fifth-largest arms exporter, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). China replaces Britain in the top five arms-dealing countries between 2008 and 2012, a group dominated by the United States and Russia, which accounted for 30 percent and 26 percent of weapons exports, SIPRI said Monday March 13. Egyptian court sentences 10 to death ahead of presidential election
By Abdus Sattar Ghazali: An Egyptian Kangaroo court Saturday (March 10) sentenced 10 people to death and five others to life in prison for allegedly forming a "terrorist group" to plot attacks on security forces and other institutions. The state-run MENA news agency said the defendants are affiliated with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood. MENA said three of the 15 defendants were sentenced in absentia. Read More
Two-front war not a good idea, says Indian general
By Abdus Sattar Ghazali: Arguing for a greater role of diplomacy to bring normalcy in tense relations with neighboring Pakistan, Lt. Gen Surinder Singh, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, has said that a two-front war is not a “smart idea”. Lt. General Surinder was alluding to the statement of Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat who said in June 2017 that the Indian Army was ready for a “two-and-a-half-front war” (China, Pakistan & internal security requirements simultaneously).Read More
